The Jackal, pretending to be gay, goes with Douglas, a man he met earlier in a gay bar; unbeknownst to him, the Jackal uses his garage to store his machine gun. As Douglas returns home after work, he finds the Jackal watching television and eating, and when a news report airs revealing his identity, he kills Douglas while continuing to eat peacefully. On the date of the First Lady's speech, the weapon is hidden in a small SUV parked near the podium. The Jackal plans to shoot the First Lady via remote control. However, Mulqueen spots the Jackal in the crowd, and before he can act, Mulqueen shoots the SUV, damaging the weapon. The Jackal then opens fire, and Preston is hit by a bullet meant for the First Lady. After a chase through the subway tunnels, Zancona shoots the Jackal, seriously wounding him; however, the Jackal's gun goes off, and Mulqueen is hit. While Zancona helps Mulqueen, the Jackal pulls out another weapon. Seeing this, Mulqueen grabs Zancona's gun and fires several times at the Jackal, killing him.

A few days later, Preston and Mulqueen attend the Jackal's burial in an unmarked grave. Preston reveals that he is returning to Russia to pursue the gangsters behind the Jackal. He says that Mulqueen's release request has been denied, but he will likely be transferred to a minimum-security prison.
