It is also famous for launching the career of mecha designer Mamoru Nagano.

The story follows Yuu Tagami and the giant Gorg as they embark on an adventure on the southern island of Austral in the South Pacific in search of the relics of a mysterious civilization.

Although it was praised as an unconventional work in the robot anime genre aimed at young children, its high production quality made it a well-known masterpiece, and its DVD release was highly anticipated in 2005.

Due to being out of print and the expiration of the contract, the product had been unavailable on the market for a long time and became a hot auction item before being reissued in 2012, but now it is finally being released on Blu-ray for the first time.

Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, who served as animation director, character designer, and overall director on many works including Mobile Suit Gundam and Giant Gorg, and who was the original creative director and character designer of Giant Gorg, received a special award at the 44th Japan Academy Prize Association Awards last year.
